Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ruth has a history of living in “frontier” neighborhoods: South Street in the ‘70s, Northern Liberties in the ‘80s, and Kensington South since 1992. Community involvement is important to her: She’s president of the Friends of Rodriguez Library and a member of the Friends of Moffet School. With KCFC, she was active on the Marketing & Membership Committee and is the Volunteer Coordinator. In addition to seeing a co-op as a source for healthy food, she sees the potential for co-ops to source community and education. Currently a freelance copyeditor, Ruth has been a lighting designer, stage manager, dance-company manager, pastry chef, and graphic designer. She lives with her cat Couscous, and owns a second home in New Orleans. She is enamored of NOLA brass and funk bands, and can usually be found dancin’ to same when they’re in Philly. Additionally, Ruth enjoys bicycling, baking, discovering new vegetarian recipes, and visiting family and friends around the world.
