Together we did it!! Our hearts are full. What an amazing show of solidarity: 700+ people rallied to support the Co-op and cross the $200,000 line. We’re in awe and grateful to all of you. We truly accomplished this together. On behalf of the KCFC Board, GM, staff, and all member-owners – THANK YOU!
Donations ranged from $3.42 from a 6-year-old neighbor who loves the Co-op to $10,000 from a faithful KCFC supporter; from a block away from the store to all the way across the country. 99% of donations were $1,000 or less. We received support from neighbors, long-time members, new members, family, friends, those who love the store, those who want to love the store, and those who haven’t yet visited our store. Every single person who donated made this happen. If that was you or you helped spread the word, thank YOU.
Hundreds of neighbors and Philadelphians showed up for KCFC in a big way. We also felt so much co-op love this week from both Columinate and National Co+op Grocers, who sent emails out to their networks across the country, and the co-ops who showed up for us – to date Isla Vista Co-op (CA), East Aurora Co-op Market (NY), Merc Co+op (KS), Co-op Dayton (OH), Flatbush Food Co-op (NY) – as well as friends from Weaver’s Way and South Philly Food Co-op – plus many others. The cooperative model is truly about cooperation and mutual support, and we see clearly that these are more than just words and ideals, but real action.
The wind-down of our store will be turned into a wind-up towards a refreshed business, in accordance with our Interim General Manager’s expert plan. Current store-wide discounts will stay in place for the time being in order to clear out old products and make way for new ones. Be patient with us during this transition phase. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next, together.
The campaign remains open because we crossed the $200,000 mark, and we see more support streaming in today because of this week’s strong outreach. If you or your family, friends, or neighbors were interested in offering support but were late for the campaign this week, the added support is so welcome, and valuable to back the GM’s turnaround work. Thank you for standing with us and what we have already built together so far. It is truly incredible to see the massive display of support and dozens of comments that show what the project and the place mean to the community. Please read them on our Fundrazr.com page if you haven’t yet. We are inspired, and our turnaround GM is fired up for the mission.
Even more important than the financial portion of the campaign is the opportunity for connection and reconnection. We want to meet you and see you at the store. We need to hear your needs and priorities. This is a new chance to grow everyone’s involvement with the store and keep on the path of making KCFC a happy place to be, to shop, to work, and to connect.
