Meet Your 2023 Board Election Candidates!

Board elections are coming soon and we are excited to announce our candidates running to represent you!

Voting is important to the cooperative model and is a function of Cooperative Principle #2 Democratic Member Control. KCFC member-owners elect the Board of Directors who volunteer to govern the business. KCFC’s Board of Directors are empowered by the member-owners to look forward strategically to make sure our business thrives.

Voting opens on Saturday, April 29 at the General Membership Meeting being held at 10:30am on KCFC’s patio. Voting closes on Monday, May 8 at 10:00pm.

For a duly-called vote to be valid, ten percent (10%) of member-owners in good standing must participate; therefore, we need at least 155 member-owners to cast their ballots.

This year, we have three candidates running for Board of Directors. This election is not contested.  Each elected candidate may serve a term of one, two, or three years.  Get to know the candidates running for the KCFC Board below!

Cooperative/Store issues of particular interest to me:

  • Making decisions based on data insights, current market realities facing the business and most importantly the customers.
  • The co-op is a place that needs to serve the greatest number of community members and in doing so, can ensure its long-term success financially.

Tell us about yourself and your personal/professional background, including relevant experience, leadership positions and passions.

I moved to the neighborhood during the pandemic and love the people and places that makeup this community. I’ve always had a passion for service which led me to a career as a bar & restaurant manager and director of operations for a national restaurant group.

After almost two decades in f&b I turned my skills and passion into a new career at Aramark as Director of Local Partnerships. I recruit and work with independent food businesses in communities around the country to showcase them to the thousands of guests we serve daily. I help others reach their full potential; whether that be through a partnership with Aramark or by providing industry insights and mentorship. Starting a family in this neighborhood inspired me to pursue a leadership role with the co-op to ensure our neighbors have a place to shop that inspires home cooked meals.

Describe your involvement with KCFC, including how long you have been a member-owner and any ways you have volunteered.

After moving to the neighborhood and finding the co-op, I looked for ways to get involved and support its success. I’ve
helped stock shelves on a Saturday morning – which is truly zen for a new parent! After learning about some of the
challenges facing the business I connected with the operations team. I helped evaluate the retail and bar operations
with the marketing leader and former GM to share insights and look at how to leverage suppliers and brands to greater
effect.

Why should you be elected to the KCFC Board of Directors? What unique skills or insights do you bring?

My experience leading operations in the restaurant industry with its cashflow dynamics, tight margins and perishable
inventories has a direct correlation to the co-op’s business model. I would bring objective and data backed decisionmaking
to the board while valuing the mission and goals of the Co-Op to ensure that both are given fair billing.
Putting the proper leadership talent in place to guide operations is so critical for KCFC and I want to bring my
experience identifying, interviewing, and developing leaders to the board. Working with the leadership to share and
amplify the story of the business, as well as the members and local purveyors, is also a place where my experience in
corporate marketing will be valuable.

I have served in an interim position in the last year as treasurer on the board of directors. I have chaired the finance

getting the co-op to a financially sustainable and viable future.

Previous to serving on the board I volunteered at the co-op with both cleanup and stocking efforts.

Why should you be elected to the KCFC Board of Directors? What unique skills or insights do you bring?

I have the domain knowledge to be effective on day one and the willingness to put in the work that is required. I love the co-op and take seriously my fiduciary duty to our members and stakeholders.

I am a Medical Rehabilitation Director and have been in the Human services field for over 30 years. I believe that people thrive when they are not in survival mode and I am passionate about helping to bring awareness and education through advocacy work. I serve as the Director of Social Justice Advocacy for The Perseverance Project in NJ and I was an interim Board member for the Co-op (in 2022) but had to step down for family reasons.

I am multifaceted and have a wealth of knowledge in numerous areas of business. Although I no longer work in the
